On The Webcast Simultaneous Interpreting Of Official Press Conferences Under The Lasswell Model

In recent years,with the rapid development of Internet technology,the webcast simultaneous interpreting(SI)of official press conferences has emerged as an original channel for official news release and publicity,in which interpreters play a vital role.Given the above backdrop,this paper applies the classical Lasewell Model to a representative case study of webcast SI of official press conferences.Specifically,the mainbody,content,audience and effect of the SI communication(all among the basic analytical facets under the Lasewell Model)are relied on as the analytical dimensions for this case study.The study aims to peep into the problems in the webcast SI of MOFCOM's press conference on Sino-US trade dispute,hoping to come up with more targeted strategies for professional SI talent cultivation.By studying the audience's feedback in comments,the interpreter's performance as the mainbody of communication,and the detailed transcript of SI content,the author found the following prominent problems in the current webcast SI of official press conferences:the official stances on major issues are not rendered as appropriate;the overall SI output is not ideal;the interpreter's background knowledge remains limited;the interpreter's voice lacks in energy and fluency.Proceeding from the above findings,targeted suggestions for SI talent cultivation are given as follows:enhance interpreters' political awareness with regard to official stance on major issues;comprehensively improve interpreters' competence to ensure high-quality SI output;closely follow the hotspot international affairs and improve interpreters' background knowledge accordingly;equip interpreters with broadcasting skills to adapt to the webcast form of SI practice.
