Daozhou Huang is a famous scholar in the late Ming Dynasty.As a well-known scholar,he is knowledgeable and productive.He is famous during his period and plays an important role in the history of Fujian literature.The Zhangpu Huang Collection is not only the most important collection of Huang’s poetry,but also the most important basis for the study of Huang’s poetry.The unique life experience of Daozhou Huang has a great influence on his poems,which gives his poems distinct characteristics in his different life stages.The foundation of Huang’s poetry creation was his broad mind and knowledge.Huang’s likes making friends and his friends-circle is quite wide.While poetry schools in the late Ming are in full swing,Daozhou Huang looks beyond the school limits.Not being confined to school rules and discarding imitation of Tang poetry-style,Huang establishes his fame by good learning and chanting.He depicts vividly in his poems the changes of the world,the encounter in life,sorrow and joy,love and hatred.Influenced by Du Fu,Huang’s poetic style is reasonable and emotional,stressing his abomination and sadness of a country’s perish,which also reflects Huang’s purpose of writing poems to review history.Huang not only pays attention to the foundation of doctrine and learning but also attaches importance to temperament.Therefore,his poetic style is both arcane and reasonable.Huang’s influence on later scholars is immense.Combining the features of the Song poetry school in the Daoxian period and the poets of Fujian school in the late Qing Dynasty,these scholars stand out the confine of Tang poetry and uphold Song poetry.Daozhou Huang’s poetry is a node that cannot be ignored in the chain of the development of Fujian poetry.
