Huang Daozhou is an important thinker,statesman and calligrapher in the late Ming Dynasty.At present,there are still some shortcomings in the positioning of Huang Daozhou's calligraphy.This paper tries to deepen the study of the Huang Daozhou's calligraphy from combining the thought history and the calligraphy history.Starting from the complexity of the ideological trend in the Ming Dynasty,this paper first discusses the cultural landscape under the care of the Neo-Confucianism in the early Ming Dynasty.With the diversified development of politics,economy and culture in the Ming Dynasty,the rigid Neo-Confucianism could not solve numerous difficulties and conflicts faced by the society,and then it came three new trends of thought--the Retro Trend,the Mind Trend and the Statecraft Ideology Trend.Through the study of the generation mechanism and feedback characteristics of these three ideological trends,the paper finds that the history,literature,calligraphy and other fields of the Ming Dynasty were affected by these three ideological trends to varying degrees.Then the paper studies how the practice of calligraphy and the concept of Huang Daozhou's calligraphy were influenced by these three trends of thought.It found that Huang Daozhou on the view of Neo-Confucianism was based on the eclectic Neo-Confucianism,so he extended and improved it on the basis of the method of Neo-Confucianism's Wang Xizhi praised calligraphy concept,which standing out the respect of Zhong Yao and Suo Jing,which attaching great importance to the external calligraphy classic and techniques at the same times emphasizing the pursuit of"Shenli"mind,which was a new way found out in harmony after Huang Daozhou saw the drawbacks of Neo-Confucianism rigid calligraphy stlye under the early of Ming Dynasty andand the risks in the Mind Trend on the calligraphy rule the middle Ming Dynasty.Influenced by the Retro Trend,in the calligraphy stlye Huang Daozhou advocated the regular script in small characters of Zhong Yao and the early cursive script of Suo Jing which were more ancient than Wang Xizhi;and in the font of calligraphy it also pays attention to the practice of eight-part writing and ancient writing;and in the aspect of seal cutting,the self-used seal of Huang Daozhou mostly had the situation that the ancient writing entered the seal;in the daily writing of the Huang Daozhou,there were also a lot of strange characters.There was still a great distance between the comprehensive restoration of this calligraphy and the objective reality of the ancient,which was the inevitable result of the limitation of the times.Influenced by the Statecraft Ideology Trend Huang Daozhou started that attention to the calligraphy text content again,and the paper is based on the investigation of the word"learning"that deepened to understanding of"the calligraphy was the 7thor 8thof learning",and according to the studies of the Huang Daozhou's 120 volumes calligraphy Filial Piety it has found that this can be regarded as not only a calligraphy creation has the sense of ritual activities,more reflects that Huang Daozhou emphasized social significance of calligraphy text under the influence of the Statecraft Ideology Trend.
