Brief Analysis On The Debate Features Of Xunzi

Xunzi lived in the prevailing age of debate.Under the influence of the famous thoughts before Qin dynasty,he advocated that gentlemen must argue and discussed the functions of debate,standards of right and wrong and proper attitudes of debaters deeply.Rich debate thoughts lead to his debate feature of honesty,sincerity,stability and profundity.Currently,most scholars mainly talk about Xunzi on its Philosophical thoughts,educational ideas,literature values,and so on.But there are only few researches focused on its debate features,which are scattered in the studies of debate thoughts,logic ideas,linguistic art and style of writing.The paper is divided into preface and four-chapter main body.In the preface,the purpose,significance and present situation of research are discussed.In order to illustrate the necessity of the research,this part stresses the related current research condition on the debate features of Xunzi.Chapter one is entitled the analysis of Xunzi on debate linguistic features.Through the comparative analysis among the essays of famous thoughts before Qin dynasty,it is thought to be the main debate linguistic feature of Xunzi to employ rhetorical devices properly and to have a preference for ornate wording.Chapter two is entitled the features of debate thought of Xunzi.On the bases of criticizing and adopting the debate thoughts of famous writers before Qin dynasty,Xunzi formed his unique debate thought.The paper discusses the debate thought of Xunzi on three points,which are that all reasons should be considered,that viewpoints must be reasonable and that analogy must be based on the common quality of different noumena.Chapter three is entitled the debate stylistic features of Xunzi.The part analyzes the evolving maturity process of the debate essay style of before Qin dynasty from the historical perspective and offers a conclusion that Xunzi signifies the maturity of the debate essay style of before Qin dynasty.Furthermore,the paper illustrates the specific performances of debate essay maturity of Xunzi from the perspective of original text.Chapter four is entitled the causes of formation of debate features of Xunzi.Warring States period is a transformative and social revolutionary age.Facing a state of chaos,how to rebuild the social order became a main theme of debate of various schools of thought during the period of pre-Qin times,each school took their own attitude and debate were very popular,which are the social reasons of formation of debate features of Xunzi.Xunzi accepted the thoughts of the other schools,took the political ambition of great unification,prevented the spiteful doctrine and restrained crafty fallacy through that gentlemen must debate,which are the personal factors of formation of debate features of Xunzi.
