Annie Ernaux,a famous and influential writer of contemporary French literature,is renowned to the general public for her autobiographical works. With a singular and unique style of writing, she won several literary awards. She was from originally from low social class. Her parents were laborers, who then turned small traders to run a coffee shop in an impoverished neighborhood. To get the girl out of the low social class, her parents toiled hard and sent her to an expensive boarding school for an entrance to the university. Finally, after the higher education,Annie managed to accomplish her social climb to the middle class and became a teacher of letters, living up to her parents'expectations. However, such kind of social promotion was seemingly honorable, but at the same time,it made Anne feel a strong sense of shame because she saw the gap and opposition between social classes more clearly. Therefore, driven by such sense of shame, the "class defector"(as Annie Ernaux called herself)decided to depict every aspect of everyday life to revolt and atone,as well as to restore interrupted dialogue with her home environment from which she moved away.In this memoir,we are going to do a study on the writing of Annie Ernaux's shame, taking her three autobiographical works:La Place,Une femme and La honte for our research object. On the one hand, this study helps us better understand the creative motivation of the author, her ideas and her writing arts.On the other hand,by analyzing the source of shame in Annie Ernaux,we can have a clearer cognitive perspective to examine the gap between the postwar social classes in France. This memoir consists of three chapters. In the first chapter,we will explore the origin of the writing of Annie Ernaux's shame, starting with the author's social context, social trajectory and creative process in literature. With regard to the social context,France's rapid economic development in post-war construction has led to a widening of the gap between the social classes. At the same time, the reform of the educational system has increased the mobility of the social class.Born during the Second World War,Annie Ernaux, one of the "children of war",completes her social rise in this social context So,writing Annie's shame is not only a purely personal referral, but also an expression of a generation of "class defectors".And then,in terms of theoretical influence,Annie Ernaux is inspired by the sociological critique of Pierre Bourdieu, according to which she abandons the fictional narrative and inaugurates a writing of the shame of realism from La place in 1983.The second chapter is dedicated to clarifying the specific sources of shame at Annie Ernaux. The first source of shame is an inferiority to the upper middle This feeling of inferiority is indeed a result of a social distinction, expressed in all aspects of everyday life, such as living space, cultural preferences and habits. The second source of shame is Annie's hatred of her parents. After a social rise, the capital held by Annie far exceeded that of her parents, not only economic but also cultural.A capital contest in the family field eventually led to a collapse of the parental image at Annie. The third source of shame is a change of scenery between the two worlds. On the one hand,Annie lives forever in the shame of her parents, and can not fully integrate into the upper middle. On the other hand, betrayal and the remoteness of his modest origin cause Annie to feel guilty.Since then, she has fallen into a phychological dilemma and into a confusion of cultural identity. The third chapter of this memoir aims to analyze the author's writing arts to illustrate how she takes writing as a weapon of revolt.First,to better reach to the truth and expose more mechanically the mechanism of hidden social functioning,Annie Ernaux renounces fiction and turns to realism. And then,to avoid a second betrayal of the modest medium, the author abandons the refined language, the beautiful styles, consecrated as tools of the culture of the culture dominated by her,and adopts a popular language of the modest medium to form a style of "flat writing".Finally,a fragmentary writing is used to express a resistance of the hierarchical order in the narratives.
