Wu qian Lun(Things do not shift)is an essay written by Seng Zhao.People who used to study Wu bu qian Lun usually focus on the relation between motion and quietude of things. However, according to the text,Wu bu qian Lun also involves the inquiry into time. Therefore,it's worthy for us to explore the meaning of time in Seng Zhao's Wu bu qian Lun.Things move along with time and they won't break away from the time they used to be.Time flows only because of karmic force, therefore time is not a real being.Time has its points in time(fake names),so it is not a non-being.In a word, time contains both motion and quietude, and it's not a being nor a non-being,so time is sunya.Comparing Seng Zhao and Nagarjuna's thought of time,we will find out they have different ways of thinking.Nagarjuna is trying to prove that time is not a being nor a non-being while Seng Zhao is trying to say time contains both motion and quietude. But they both actually apply the thought of madhyamapratipad and it leads they to the same conclusion that time is sunya.Concerning time,Seng Zhao and Wei Jin metaphysics have similar topic and way of thinking. However,Seng Zhao believes in the thought of madhyamapratipad so their conclusions are different.Seng Zhao thinks that time has no start nor end,and time does not have an essence nor it follows other thing's essence. It's different from the thought of Wei Jin metaphysics. There are two reasons for Seng Zhao's argument. On the one hand,it helps people to know what time really is and it will encourage people to practice the dhama. On the other hand,it can criticize the thought which thinks all phenomena in the three times truly exist.
