A Report On Translation Of Science And Technology News From The Perspective Of Communicative Translation Theory

Today,science and technology are changing people’s lives in unprecedented ways.Science and technology news enables readers to obtain the latest information at home and abroad.Therefore,it is crucial to convey the latest information accurately to domestic readers.Science and technology news features timeliness,scientificalness and readability.According to the text typology theory put forward by Peter Newmark,it belongs to the informative functional text.Communicative translation theory should be adopted in its translation.The purpose of communicative translation theory is to make the effect of the translation on the target language reader the same as the original text on the source language reader.At the same time,communicative translation theory emphasizes the accuracy and readability of translation.Thus,the focus of the report is how to apply communicative translation theory to science and technology news translation and achieve the goal of communication.It has practical guiding significance for translation practice.This paper takes the author’s translation practice during her internship at China Daily for three months as a case study.The paper finds that strategies such as amplification and omission can be used to ensure the accuracy of the target text,and the translator has the right to supplement key information,or delete redundant content,to transmit effective information.What’s more,strategies such as conversion,inversion and division can make the target text more consistent with Chinese expression habits and enhance the readability.This means that during the translation,the part of speech of certain words can be converted.Word order needs to be adjusted.And long and difficult sentences should be divided into short ones.Through the analysis,the paper summarizes that communicative translation theory can guide the science and technology news translation properly.Meanwhile,it still has some limitations.Thus,more theories should be combined in the study.
