Throughout the history of Western music,British music is a relatively special existence.British music in the Middle Ages has always been unrecognized. In the fifteenth century,John Dunstable,as the "Pioneer" of British music, for the first time led the trend of Western music development. However,in the sixteenth century,British music failed to continue its glory and began to move toward silence.Although the 17 th century composer Henry Purcell won a short honor for Britain,it is slightly inferior than the music of Germany and Italy.Since then,Britain has been in a state of silence for nearly two hundred years.Until the twentieth century, with the efforts of Edward Elgar,Benjamin Britten and others,British music began to revive.According to the development track of British music,it can be observed that the sixteenth century is an important historical stage in the development of Western music. This article takes the 16 th century as a node and uses the British composer William Byrd as a case study to observe the development of British music in the religious reform. This article is divided into three chapters. The first chapter reviews the early development of British music, and observes how it developed in the 16 th century. The second chapter presents a case study of William Byrd, and comprehensively interprets Bird's important influence and value significance on the development of British music from the perspective of music history and music analysis. The third chapter takes the religious reform as the background and further observes the development of music in European countries. At the same time,it compares with British music and deeply analyzes the inner relationship between religious environment and music culture.
