Famous for translating Bible and promoting English Reformation, William Tyndale (14847-1536) is an important Reformer in early 16th century England. As a erudite folk Reformer, Tyndale was well educated in his studenthood, but he didn’t have any politician experience. So his Reformation thought was profound, systematic and nationalistic, while it was partially divorced from the king’s policy.Tyndale’s Reformation Thought is deeply influenced by Christian Humanism, theology thought of Justification by faith and ancient heresy. It concludes 3 parts. First, the opinions on Bible:In his view, Bible is the unique religion authority, and it should be translated into English. Second, the opinions on the doctrine:He proposed a particular standard of justification, made the sacraments the carriers of God’s promises. Third, the opinions on the church:Tyndale advocated to setting up a chaste and equal church. This church and the secular regime are independence with each other. His Reformation thought partially inherited the Christian Humanism and some ancient heresy. Besides, it not only had promoted national consciousness, but also had improved the the absolutism temporal realm. However, some of his Reformation thought had confliction against the king’s religious policy.Tyndale’s Reformation thought was an important part of English Reformation thought. It had reflected the English folk’s Reform desire and the folk Reformer’s immaturity in politics. Although it had make great influence in society, the English Royal didn’t accept his thought. As a result, he finally was abandoned by Henry.
