The thesis is mainly a comparative study, taking Rossini's opera buffa as the subject. In its three chapters,Chapter One introduces Rossini's artistic career, his achievement in opera buffa, and his two representative works in the genre – Il Barbiere di Siviglia and La Cenerentola.Chapter Two comparatively studies the two female protagonists-Rosina and Cenerentola, discussing the similarities and differences between the characterization of the two roles from both of dramatic and musical perspectives.Chapter Three,as a conclusion, further discusses how to interpret the two roles by coloratura, accurate language,as well as involvement with the stage roles. Moreover, the thesis may also demonstrate how the analysis of characterization prepares for operatic performance, and how the analysis into vocal performance improves the characterization conversely. |
