A Report On The Translation Of The Third Chapter Of Metaphors In International Relations Theory

This report is based on the translation of the third chapter of Metaphors in International Relations Theory,which belongs to academic text.Academic texts convey the professional knowledge of specific field,which put forward requests to the translation of this kind of texts.This report mainly discusses the translation methods from the perspective of words,sentences and discourse.Keeping a detailed record of this practice,the writer restores the whole process in this translation report,and discusses translation problems which appear in this practice.This translation report includes four chapters: translation task description,translation process description,case analysis and translation practice summary.The first chapter briefly introduces the basic information of the original book and the features of the text.The second chapter describes the process of the translation including preparation,translation and correction.In the third chapter,the author selects some typical cases to analyze difficulties of the translation and summarizes the translation strategies of translating the academic texts.The fifth chapter is the summary of this whole translation practice.Through the analysis of the translation examples,this report summarizes the translation strategies of academic texts.In terms of vocabulary,the translation of terms should conform to the norms of relative profession fields;According to the Chinese writing habits,some words of the original text should be converted.For the long sentences with complex structure,sentences should firstly be split into small clauses and then reorganized according to the expressive habits of Chinese;the passive sentences should be flexibly converted and translated into Chinese passive sentences,active sentences or sentences without subjects.In discourse translation,the translator should add relative conjunction according to the logic of the source text and make the discourse reference clear in translation.
