High School English Curriculum Standards stipulates the cultural awareness of students based on the core literacy of English. In the compulsory education stage, schools should actively develop students with cross-cultural communication skills and international perspectives.Since China strives to increase its international status now, countries around the world are gradually paying attention to Chinese education.Students need to learn Western culture and Chinese culture. However,in today's high school English teaching process, teachers tend to emphasize the role of the target language culture, but ignore the catalytic role and the status of mother tongue culture in cross-cultural communication, which will reduce students' intercultural communication competence. Therefore, high school English teaching should enhance students' interest in English learning by introducing Chinese and Western cultures, and cultivate students' language ability and intercultural communication competence.Based on the theory of intercultural communication, this paper uses the research methods of questionnaires, interviews and experiments to conduct empirical research on teachers and students of a high school in Changchun.Through the investigation of the introduction of Chinese and Western culture in high school English teaching, and the comparative analysis of the test results of the experimental class and the control class, the paper explores the necessity of introducing Chinese and Western culture into high school English teaching and important role of promoting the intercultural communication competence of students.Based on the above empirical research, this paper draws the following conclusions: First, the introduction of Chinese and Western culture is very important for high school English teaching activities. If we can establish a cultural introduction goal in the process of English teaching, students can improve their cultural knowledge and subject knowledge more comprehensively, thus establishing their correct values. Moreover,Due to the requirements of the National school entrance test and the provisions of English textbooks, students should reflect the logical characteristics of language culture in the process of cultural appreciation.Second, there is an interactive relationship between Chinese culture and foreign culture. Therefore, teachers should pay attention to the influence of the process of Chinese and Western culture integration, and to the role of cultural introduction so as to enhance students' awareness of intercultural communication.Third, schools should improve the content of teaching materials and enhance the importance of cultural introduction activities. At the same time, students should also develop their interest in Chinese and Western cultures and improve their intercultural communication competence.Fourth, there should be more opportunities of quality training provided for high school English teachers, and the evaluation system of high school English courses should be perfected.
