Zeng Guofan’s Research On Western Affairs Military Ideology

Zeng Guofan was a famous late Qing Dynasty official.He set great achievements in traditional Chinese culture,successfully suppressed the Taiping Heavenly Kingdom,and opened the Westernization Movement.His legendary life is extraordinary.The evaluation of Zeng Guofan by later generations was somewhat controversial,but his thinking promoted the entire modernization process in China.As the forerunner and promoter of the Westernization Movement,his military thoughts on the Westernization and the prelude to the opening of the Westernization Movement have laid the foundation for the modernization of China’s military and the modernization of science and technology.However,his thoughts and activities have failed to surpass the limitations of history and class and have failed to truly realize the goals of strong arms and the ideals of strong nations.Studying Zeng Guofan’s military thoughts and practices in Westernization,drawing on his experience and analyzing his lessons,can provide a certain reference for today’s military and national construction.The dissertation discusses Zeng Guofan’s three aspects of the formation,the main content,the practice and the evaluation of the Westernization military thought.The first part of the thesis analyzes the conditions of the times and the theoretical basis of Zeng Guofan’s military thoughts of the Westernization.The second part focuses on the main content and practice of Zeng Guofan’s military thought on the Westernization,including the establishment of military enterprises,training of military personnel,and translation of Western books.The third part is the evaluation of Zeng Guofan’s influence on the Westernization military thought and its practice,and discusses the limitations and positive effects of Zeng Guofan’s westernization military thought.In the end,the thesis analyzes and summarizes Zeng Guofan’s contemporary revelation on the Westernization military thought and practice.
