| In the Intenet era,when people have a social contact with others online,they would often use a nonverbal symbol called emoji to convey emotion,which is popular among users.And now,emoji has been an important emotional expression tool online,it is a transformation of human nonverbal behavior(facial expression,body gestures)on Face to Face interation(FtF).lndividual emotional expression during FtF follows the emotional regulation rules,during which nonverbal behavior could regular or conceal one’s real emotion.If the nonverbal behavior online fit the rule,there is a question whether nonverbal symbols like emoji would express a certain emotion the same as the matching text.In this study,we will explore the emotional consistency(consistency vs inconsistency vs non-judgement)between emoji and the matching text on Xinlang microblog by qualitative research methods and big data tools.The study consists of two research.Research 1 would ensure emotion labels of certain emojis and the proportion of each label.Research 2 would explore the emotional consistency between emoji and the matching text by big data.Results show that there are various emotion labels(positive vs negative vs neutral)on a emoji,and the proportion of consistency of text-emoji is lower than the proportion of inconsistency and non-judgement(neither consistent nor inconsistent)of text-emoji.It is possible for Weibo users implicitly express their emotion via emoji online.Ignoring the role of emoji may lower the precision of recognizing one’s emotion online.Further research should identify user’s emotion combining one’s emoji and the matching text. |
