| The rich connotation of Chinese characters carries Chinese civilization over thousands of years and reflects the aesthetics of Chinese nation.These characters are man-made figures and recognized symbols.Meanwhile,they are closely connected with Chinese history,culture,social custom,science technology and the inner world of man’s heart.Chinese characters have been closely linked with geometric shapes from the very beginning.Chinese characters used to be abstract scribed symbols in the first place before they gradually evolved into pictographic characters and then abstract and geometric characters.Geometrically speaking,those shapes serve as the fundamental elements of Chinese symbol system.From the perspective of the mathematical ratio of geometrical shapes,each square shaped character is able to standardize and integrate various elements visually based on geometric principles.Therefore,this application research of geometrical visual language which are used in the creative design of Chinese characters is of certain advantage and realizability.Based on this,the thesis aims to probe the application of geometrical visual language in the creative design of Chinese characters.This thesis attempts to give consideration to Chinese culture,design,technology,geometric visual elements’ aesthetics and mathematical logic as well.The highlight of this thesis lies in its multiple ways of investigating the application and design approaches of geometrical visual language in Chinese characters’ creative design.The author will adopt the literature,comparative,qualitative and case study methods.Also,related literature will cover such following aspects as the components of geometrical visual language,mathematics ratio,the history and current situation of Chinese characters.This thesis collects a large number of outstanding works on characters’ creative design both at home and abroad.In addition,through categorizing and extracting typical cases,the text analyzes the application of different geometrical visual language and obtains the methods of characters’ design,development trends and so on.The main research contents of this paper include:(1)sorting out the basic elements of geometric visual language and the main contents of mathematical ratio and expounding the creative advantages of geometric visual language in Chinese character design;(2)clearing up the development process of decorative Chinese characters and related concepts of Chinese character design,and analyzing the features and principles of Chinese character creative design;(3)the application and manifestation of geometric visual language in the creative design of Chinese characters are discussed from diverse aspects like point,line,plane,geometric stereoscopic modeling and geometric mathematical ratio;(4)summarizing and sorting out the application approaches of geometric visual language in the creative design of Chinese characters,setting layout of the development tendency of Chinese character design,and carrying out design practice correspondingly.The results of this thesis show the following findings:(1)the components of geometric visual language are excellent inspirations for the design of Chinese characters.The rich emotions hidden in points,lines and planes impose direct effects on the emotional expression of Chinese characters’ creative design,while the emotions and dispositions conveyed by Chinese characters are closely bound up with the design purposes;(2)the mathematical ratio in geometric visual language is of extensive room for practice and research in the application of Chinese characters’ creative design.It expresses the visual arts of Chinese characters’ creative design in a quantifiable and logic manner.Such rational thinking has been gaining more and more attention in modern design;(3)the applications of geometric visual language in Chinese characters’ creative design can be concluded and extracted into feasible design methods,offering reference significance and value for design practices to a certain extent. |
