In the process of English reading teaching in senior school,classroom questioning is a comprehensive teaching art which is able to put doubt,inspire interest and stimulate reflection.It is the link among teachers,students,and teaching materials.High-quality classroom questioning can fully arouse student’s enthusiasm and help them understand text better so that more students can actively take part in class activities.Therefore,the investigation on classroom questioning raised in English reading class in senior school can help us know about current situation and problems of classroom questioning.It is very important and necessary to improve the quality and effectiveness of English reading class in senior school.Taking Xingxian Vocational School as an example,this thesis focuses on the investigation on current situation of classroom questioning in English reading class in senior school.The main instrument is questionnaire for teachers and students,mainly analyzing feedback,questioning utterance,questioning strategies,questioning skills and other issues.To supplement this,interview for teachers and classroom observation are adopted,analyzing types of classroom questioning,wait-time,ways of questioning and so on.Based on these three instruments,this study attempts to find out answers to these questions:(1)What is current situation of classroom questioning in English reading class in senior school?(2)What problems do English teachers have in the respect of classroom questioning in senior English reading class?First,the author sends out 200 questionnaires for students and 56 questionnaires for teachers.The data collected is analyzed by SPSS 21.0.In addition,the author observes 30 lessons of three English teachers in senior school and takes notes about questioning-related issues.Finally,these three English teachers are interviewed in order to understand the teacher’s latent thoughts and know about present situation and problems of the classroom questioning in details and all-around.The result of this investigation shows that: Due to heavy task of teaching,there is not enough wait-time in classroom for students to answer questions,which reduces students’ chance of cultivation the ability to thinking and expression.In the process of questioning,there is imbalance between difficult and easy question,as well as the object of questioning.After the students answer questions,the feedback given by the teachers is not able to meet the needs of the students.Teachers are short of asking high-level questions in the classroom.It shows that as for current classroom questioning,there are still many problems.Through the study,it is hoped that teachers can understand more clearly what problems about classroom questioning are in English reading class in high school so as to improve the quality of teachers’ questioning and promote teachers’ professional development.
