After the Persian war Athens rose from a small state of Attica to the Athens Empire,with the political development,economic flourishing,powerful military and cultural achievements,Athens has made great diplomatic efforts to from maritime hegemony and become the economic and center of the Mediterranean world.Athens was the world's largest sea empire at the time,and it was largely a result of the prosperity of the multifunctional port of the Piraeus.Piraeus has superior geographical location and the complete ancillary facilities,is a crucial naval port in Athens,and it's also the satellite town commercial center of Athens.Many businessmen all over the country,even after the fall of the Athens Empire it is still Greek commercial center of the world.Even today it also has an important significance to the economy and military,based on the research achievements of Chinese and foreign scholars for reference,this paper intends to research the function of the Piraeus in Classical Era.This article is divided into five parts,the first part is the introduction.The second part discusses the historical context of the Piraeus in the classical time,and it's about the rise,development and the ups and downs of the Piraeus after the Peloponnesian war.The third part discusses the community function of the Piraeus,and mainly discuss about the population and population movements,administration and community of the Piraeus.In the fourth part discusses the military function of Piraeus combing the beginning of the Athenian sea power before the Piraeus was built,mainly explore the construction,military function and naval base of the Piraeus.In the fifth part talks about the economic function of Piraeus,respectively talks about the commercial function of the port,the economic function of the port and other economic function of the port.
