With the development of globalization,English has become more and more important as a general language in many fields.Therefore,English teachers are responsible for the quality of the curriculum and the pedagogical quality as a compulsory course in the basic education stage.In recent years,with the English curriculum and examination reform,and the development of quality-oriented education,the professional development of English teachers constantly improves.Therefore,it has been paid more attention to the professional development and career planning.So that it can provide more help for ordinary English teachers.With such background and significance in mind,the research of this study selected 3 English expert teachers as the research subjects and focused on these two questions: 1.What are the typical characteristics of professional development for 3 English expert teachers? 2.What are the main factors that affect the professional development success of the 3 English expert teachers? The author adopts the narrative inquiry,which includes depth interviews and classroom observation,analyzes their occupation conception,teaching conception,teacher conception and student conception,trying to unveil and understand the characteristics and factors of expert teachers professional development.The research found that the typical individual characteristics of professional development for English expert teachers have laid the foundation for the success of teachers' career.Meanwhile,there are many common factors influences the success of English expert teachers.The main factors include four aspects: family life,teaching practice,teachers' development concept,and teaching research.In family life,the expert teachers can balance work and family life in every period of professional development;in teaching,expert teachers can effectively solve the students' problems with great insight.Besides,they often reflect themselves,and give much encourage to students.In teacher development,expert teachers can make certain plans for their career in every period,and can successfully accomplish the tasks.In addition,the support from school leadership is also necessary for expert teachers.In teaching research,expert teachers have realized the importance of teaching research at the early stage,which is very helpful for them.Through analyzing these factors,the research gives some advice which can promote more teachers change into expert teachers from two aspects that include individual and school.What's more important,it can enrich theories in relation to teachers' professional development and improve the quality of English teaching in primary and middle schools.
