Study On Lu Xun’s Book Design And His Influence

Based on Lu Xun’s book design as a breakthrough point,combining with the historical background of the late Qing Dynasty and the early Republic of China and the impetus of the technological progress of the eastward spread of Western learning,this paper analyses Lu Xun’s design works on the basis of Lu Xun’s personal collection,recommendation and preference for foreign works,and thus explores Lu Xun’s ideas in book design.Lu Xun loved Chinese traditional art.He collected more than 6,000 rubbings of ancient portraits,statues,inscriptions,epitaphs and other stone inscriptions in his lifetime,and made in-depth research to apply patterns to his book design.He saved the watermarking method of ancient woodcut instant bamboo print in our country and published Peiping Notebook together with Zheng Zhenduo;advocated "bringing doctrine" for the excellent foreign art works of Lu Xun,and boldly used it for reference to change the outmoded atmosphere at that time;he also had a strong interest in Japanese Ukiyo painting and European painting,and had a collection of sixteen countries.More than 200 foreign printmaking original works by authors have compiled more than ten kinds of woodcut albums.The introduction of works into translation and publication has made indelible contributions to the development of woodcut art in China.Lu Xun has his own opinions on book design.He believes that book design should be a whole.From editing to printing,consideration should be taken into account.Lu Xun advocated "using the past for the present and using the foreign for the Chinese".The above-mentioned stone carving,woodcut,illustration and other elements have been used in book design by Lu Xun.He designed more than 60 book covers in his life,which are all considered to be excellent works with ingenuity and long connotation.Therefore,Lu Xun’s achievements are the most prominent in the activities of literati participation and design,and are the precious value of modern book design in China.Legacy.Under the advocacy of Lu Xun,Tao Yuanqing,Qian Juntao,Sun Fuxi and others have embarked on the road of book design.Starting from Lu Xun’s design concept,they have created more unique and exquisite book design works,created a splendid scene of book design in the Republic of China,and laid a solid foundation for the development of modern book design in China.The foundation also has a very high reference value for the current development of book design.
