| A Thousand Splendid Suns written by Khaled Hosseini has been widely admired since it was published.The book tells an impressive story of two Afghan women who are sharply different in age,family background and education,suffering a series of tragic affairs such as poverty,domestic violence and war in Afghanistan society.It is estimable of Hosseini to abandon the traditional male writing pattern and male writing psychology,and aim at writing the living status of those vulnerable female groups.During his process of creation,he did not rigidly act himself as a character in his story,however,through imagining the heroines holding their own dilemma and hope as a real person,he made the characters show themselves to the readers actively,which makes the characters become more lifelike and more reliable.Hosseini’s writing of Afghan women opens a window on the presentation of Afghanistan society to the readers all over the world.The readers are available to get in touch with the Afghan women in the real world through reading.This thesis takes Irigaray’s sexual difference theory as the starting point to analyze and discuss the phenomenon of female writing in Hosseini ’s A Thousand Splendid Suns and exposes the social reality of Afghanistan from the perspective of sexual difference.The author proceeds from the living status of Afghan people,and focuses on the images of the two sexes in A Thousand Splendid Suns and the dilemmas they face.Based on this,the author discusses the two heroines’ struggle for discourse power,getting rid of the identity of the male accessory and establishing the subject.Meanwhile,to make a comparison study of the gender relationships appears in the book,and further analyze the ideal relationship between the two sexes.The study shows that social gender difference is the root of gender inequality.Social gender and patriarchal culture must be deconstructed to achieve gender equality.Women must construct female discourse to express their demands and desires in order to deconstruct social gender,get rid of the identity of being the other in patriarchal society and obtain self-subjectivity.Meanwhile,the emancipation of female is more than for women,but should be extended to the liberation the two sexes.Both men and women should build an equal and harmonious gender perspective.By applying sexual difference theory to study Hosseini’s A Thousand Splendid Suns,the thesis is supposed to reveal how Afghan women struggle to survive in marital violence,drought and poverty,and finally provides a new perspective for the study of contemporary female writing. |
