Legends of the Eight Immortals,a Taoist novel with 56 chapters,is mainly about eight people becoming the immortals and crossing the sea.Becoming the immortals recounts the course that the eight people led by Lu Dongbin and Han Zhongli became immortals.Crossing the sea mainly tells the story that eight immortals clashed with the Dragon King when they traveled the East Sea,and then reunited under the mediation of Guanyin.Academic researches on this book are relatively few,and the contents involved are relatively single.This paper mainly studies Legends of the Eight Immortals from three aspects.First,examine the author's writing background from the aspect of social background;Second,explore the ideological connotation comprehensively and deeply,and artistic characteristics of Legends of the Eight Immortals.Finally,analyze the influence of Legends of the Eight Immortals on the later generations from the perspective of novel and drama,in order to grasp the unique and rich ideological and artistic value of the book in an all-round way.This paper consists of seven chapters.Chapter ? is the introduction.It is mainly about the history and present situation of the study of Legends of the Eight Immortals,and puts forward the research ideas and methods of this paper on this basis.Chapter ? is about the author and the experience of writing the book.It is mainly for exploring the social and cultural background of the author when writing Legends of the Eight Immortals.in terms of the author,it deduces the author's situation mainly from the social status and region of the author and the contents of the novel.In terms of the background of writing the book,it analyzes the impact of the work from the aspects of politics,economy,public psychology and so on.Chapter ? is about religions thoughts.The religious thoughts of Legends of the Eight Immortals are divided into two aspects: The first aspect is the methods that the author propagandizes the Taoist thought and the self-cultivation;The second aspect is the author's attitude towards Confucianism and Buddhism.Chapter ? is about image-building.It analyzes the mystique and secularization of the immortals in this book,which is embodied in the characteristics of the immortal images in the popular novels of Ming and Qing dynasties under the development of Taoist secularization.Chapter ? is about narrative art.It analyzes the temporal and spatial narratives of the novel,which embodies the strange and mysterious characteristics of the novel Legends of the Eight Immortals as a novel of gods and demons.Chapter ? is about some problems in Legends of the Eight Immortals.It is divided into two aspects of plot coherence and story collage.Chapter ? is about propagation effect.It is mainly from the perspective of fiction and drama.The first is to analyze the influence of Legends of the Eight Immortals on eight Immortals from the following three aspects: the propaganda of Taoist theme,the same plot,and the structure of eight immortals including Zhong,Lu and so on.The second is to analyze the influence of Legends of the Eight Immortals on later drama from three aspects: Taoist drama,shadow play and other local dramas.
