A Report On The C-E Translation Of The Traditional Art Of Chinese Paper Cut(Excerpts)

This is a report on the Chinese-English translation of a traditional Chinese folk-art book The Traditional Art of Chinese Paper Cut,aiming to make some reflections on the translation practice and explore a set of effective methods to guide the translation practice of texts about Chinese folk-art.Based on the author's own translation practice,the report makes an analysis of the practice and discusses how to strike a balance between domestication and foreignization in terms of word,sentence and discourse in the translation process,so as to achieve an effective cross-cultural communication.It is found that in the translation of folkloric texts,to determine the appropriate translation strategies,the complexity,importance and relevance of the information carried by each word,sentence and paragraph should be comprehensively analyzed.Meanwhile,translators should consider issues from the perspective of both the author and the reader.They should not only try to maintain the information of folkways and writing style,but also make their words conform to the reading habits of the target text readership by adding relevant information and deleting redundant words.
