| Pronunciation is one of the most significant parts of language teaching.Standard pronunciation and intonation can help learners to lay a solid foundation on oral communication.Pronunciation is the basis of English learning and a good command of phonetic recognition and spelling ability will help learners to improve their pronunciation.The Curriculum Standard Level 2 requires that students should learn basic rules of spelling and spell words according to certain phonics rules.However,the pupils in rural primary schools can’t meet the requirement.Phonetics aims to cultivate students’ ability to read when meeting new words and to write when hearing the words through the establishment of corresponding relationship between English letters or letter combinations and the pronunciation.A large number of studies have shown that in vocabulary teaching of the primary school English,the phonics teachers can help students establish an inner link between sound and form of words,which improve pupils’ accurate spelling-out of words and vocabulary memory.While literature retrieval shows that researches about how to effectively carry out phonics method on English teaching of primary schools in rural areas are insufficient.Therefore,this paper records an application research of phonics in author’s classes as a case study to provide enlightenment for optimizing English spelling teaching in rural primary schools.This subjects of the study were from Class 1 and Class 2,Grade 5 of C Primary School in Jinjiang City,Fujian Province.This experiment lasted for 3 months,and the process included:questionnaire,pre-test,,post-test and interview.The analysis of the pre-test and post-test showed that the students in the experimental group have improved their vocabulary phonetic recognition and spelling ability.Interview after the experiment showed that experimental group thought that phonics is helpful to them.They were more interested in English learning and they would participate in English spelling more actively.Therefore,this study concluded that phonics teaching method is effective in rural primary English vocabulary teaching. |
