Integrated Medium Oil Painting Creation For Lin Daiyu’s Image

Lin Daiyu is the tragic heroine in A Dream in Red Mansions wrote by Cao Xueqin.Her lifetime is lonely and desolate.She pursues individual freedom and opposes artificial carving.“Clean nature from birth to death” is her lifelong faith.The brilliant Lin Dayu takes birds and flowers as her bosom friends and allies with bamboo and chrysanthemum,her lofty temperament is not inferior to any literati.Using integrated medium oil painting language to create the image of Lin Dayu,which breaks the traditional Chinese realistic painting,line drawing,or free sketch painting in the traditional Chinese painting for the characterization of figures in A Dream in Red Mansions.It is a tentative communication between modern and traditional,Chinese and western culture to present the image of beautiful women in traditional Chinese painting with contemporary painting media.It not only renews people’s perspective on beautiful women in traditional Chinese painting in the past,but also narrates the distance between young people and traditional Chinese paintings.In recent years,integrated painting has entered the art stage as an independent kind of painting in China.In particular,integrated medium oil painting is now in a flourishing period in China,which is an expression form of painting in line with the needs of the times.The graceful and classical images of beautiful women in traditional Chinese painting are completely different from the current cultural images dominated by "entertainment culture","money-worship culture","and celebrity effect" and so on.They are full of gentle and secluded literati connotation,which is the real demand of people’s inner spirit and thought.Traditional paintings themed on beautiful women in traditional Chinese painting also show an active and rising state in the art market,especially those themed on beautiful women in traditional Chinese painting in the form of contemporary media more meet the needs of the market.By studying the traditional theory of beauty painting and the expression techniques of medium oil painting at home and abroad,this paper provides important theoretical guidance for the creation of Lin Daiyu’s image,and thus gradually clarifies the expression forms that fit this creation.Integrated medium oil painting has a strong sense of vision and touch,the chapped,flowing,broken texture and other visual effects perfectly reflect Lin Daiyu’s tragedy in the novel.The image creation of Lin Daiyu selectively absorbed the essence of the creation of traditional beauty in the past,combined with the characteristics of the integrated medium oil painting,trying to create the image of Lin Daiyu with contemporary styles.In the process of creation,I constantly explore the relationship between ideas and oil painting techniques,as well as the relationship between texture,color and creative intention.Therefore,the combination of Lin Daiyu’s spiritual connotation and integrated medium artistic language has become the key difficulty in the process of this creation.The creation centers on Lin Daiyu’s tragic fate and void,calm and lofty literati connotation,combined medium oil painting language form in the process of creation,a total of six integrated medium oil paintings have been created,with a size of 1.2 m * 1 m,0.9 m * 1.5 m respectively,and the titles for those works are “Lin Daiyu Buries Fallen Flowers”,“Asking Chrysanthemum”,"Lin Daiyu and Parrot ","Xiaoxiang Concubine"," Soul of Flower","Farewell To Unreasoning Passion By Burning Manuscript”,respectively.
