The thesis is a case study of the painting and calligraphy appreciating and collecting history,centering on Zhang Boju,a famous collector in the republic of china.Zhang Boj u,viewed as one of China's six great collectors in the 20th century,enjoys a noble position in the modern appreciating and collecting history due to his lofty characters and vast and high-quality collections.Both subjective efforts and opportunities given by specific history are conducive to Zhang's achievement in paintings and calligraphy appreciation.Born into a literary family,Zhang Boju is keen to traditional culture.For all his life,he had wondered in world of paintings,calligraphy,poetry and traditional Chinese opera,which laid a solid foundation for his later collection.During the 1900s,china's social structure and culture pattern are amid constant reform,providing a hard-won chance for collectors.Consequently,Zhang's appreciation work has benefited from the emerging exhibition mode.In combination of both subjective and objective conditions,the thesis analyzes Zhang's appreciation method mainly focusing on the two books record of Congbi's paintings and calligraphy collection and on spring outing.By the study of Zhang Boju's appreciation in paintings and calligraphy,the thesis sheds light on the development and feature of china's paintings and calligraphy in the 20th century.
