A Report On C-E Translation Of The Thirteenth Five-Year Plan For Economic And Social Development Of Ningxiang County(Chapters 1-2)

Political texts are argumentative papers that elaborate and comment on current major events and social issues from a political perspective.In order to better publicize county development strategies,enhance international cooperation and exchanges,and promote regional economic development,the Chinese-English translation of political texts will be of practical significance.It not only provides reference texts for this type of translation,but also is of practical value for improving the translators' professional translation level.Political texts are standardized and rigorous with objective narration.The versions must be faithful to the source texts and in line with writing criteria of the target language,so as to make readers feel the same as the original readers.The source text of the translation project is selected from the Thirteenth Five-Year Plan for Economic and Social Development of Ningxiang County(Chapters One to Two).For the realization of optimal communicative effects,the translator chooses the Skopos Theory as the theoretical basis.According to Skopos Theory,the translator analyzes the translation from lexical,syntactical and textual perspectives and summarizes the methods and strategies for translating political texts by using the three principles of Skopos Theory.The Principle of Purpose requires the translator to fully consider the target reader's degree of acceptability in order to achieve the intended purpose of the translation.To fulfill this goal,the translator adopts strategies such as annotation,infinitive structure and word order adjustment;the Principle of Coherence refers to the intralingual connection between the source text and the target one,that is,the version must be readable and acceptable to the reader in target culture,and be meaningful in the corresponding background and its communicative environment.This principle is implemented in the translation by means of part-of-speech conversion,voice transformation and omission;the Principle of Loyalty refers to the interlingual connection between the source text and the target one,that is,the translation must be faithful to the source text.The translator achieves this purpose by adopting methods such as literal translation and free translation,and ensures the objectivity of the translation while accurately conveying information.The translation practice shows that as a translator of political texts,according to the functions and stylistic characteristics of political papers,firstly,he or she needs to fully understand the source text,remove language barriers and ensure political accuracy,so as to realize the purpose of the target text;then,coherence and loyalty should be guaranteed by corresponding with expression patterns of the target language and achieving the accuracy of political context in the source text,trying to promote better understanding and communication in politics,culture,and ideology between the Chinese government and Western readers.
