Playing an auxiliary role in speech delivery,PowerPoint is an effective way to assist speakers to convey their ideas and help audience grasp core information.Different from traditional texts,speech-supportive PowerPoint text is featured by its unique ways of expression and functions,which posts challenges to translators while in the meantime providing more possibilities for translation.Based on the analysis of the author's translation practice of five PowerPoint texts of Asia Media Summit,the thesis consists of three parts.The author firstly gives a brief introduction to the translation program and its main characteristics and problems.In the second part,the thesis discusses the necessary functions of a successful PowerPoint.Based on the functions concluded in the second part,the thesis further explores what translation strategies to adopt and how to apply them accordingly to achieve the functions discussed above.Through the above analysis,the author concludes that a successful PowerPoint text should have the following functions: indicative,intuitive,analytical and persuasive.In order to bring these functions into full play,translators can adopt methods including simplification,visualization and animation to make a more effective and adaptive translation.With the conclusion of the functions and translation strategies of PowerPoint texts,the author hopes that the thesis will to some extent help translators to better understand and translate PowerPoint texts.
