With the advent of global population ageing,there is an increasing demand for qual ified and professional nursing staff internationally.Under such circumstances,Chinese nursing talents to overseas employment development has also become a trend.But the IELTS is still a big problem for them.Since Chengde Nursing College started the English Nursing School in 2002,nearly 100 secondary-vocational nursing colleges around the country have followed to set up the English Nursing Profession.Every year,nearly 1,000 graduates go abroad to further their studies and obtain employment,realizing the dream of high-paying employment,and practising the slogan of the English nursing profession: "To train a foreign-related nursing talents to save a poor and backward family".There is no doubt that it is a challenge for secondary vocational school students who have poor basic knowledge and learning ability to study in English and nursing for three years while they are at school to take up employment or study abroad through IELTS.As an English textbook selected by various foreign nursing colleges and universities,New Concept English takes on the heavy responsibility of strengthening the foundation of students with low starting point and moving towards IELTS.This paper discusses whether the application of communicative approach to New Concept English teaching can strengthen students' mastery of New Concept English and increase their interest in English learning.The research object of this paper is the students of two classes of foreign nursing major in Heilongjiang Linye College of Healthprofessions.The traditional teaching method is used in the control class and the communicative teaching method is used in the experimental class.After a term of experi ment,by comparing the final scores of the two classes and conducting a questionnaire survey and interview with the students,we find that the communicative approach has a positive effect on the foreign nursing students' learning of New Concept English.
