Exotic Charm

There are many beautiful paintings In Boucher's long artistic career,and the most well known ones are his rococo paintings,resorting to gorgeous lithe and graceful colors and graceful women,which reflect the purely sensual stimulation and upper-class life.The work is often labeled as affectation and lack of connotation.Therefore,there is less research on Boucher both in domestic and abroad,and most of the discussions are about the splendor of the rococo era and the enjoyment of the material conveyed in the background which are shown in his rococo paintings.Yet 18 th century was not only the age of the rococo presented,but also the era that European society found great novelty in Chinese culture.The birth of "La Chinoiserie",which has swept through Europe since the time of Louis xiv,has exerted a great influence on European art.Francois Boucher's paintings were the products under that influence.Although he totally rooted in his own nation's cultural traditions and depicted China by imagination,a misunderstanding to the real Chinese art,but his works not only have exotic amorous feelings,but also combines the characteristics of The Times.Along with the development of the globalization trend in recent years,the Chinese and western art communication has become topics that many scholars concerns and focus.How to correctly treat the complicated foreign culture and how to use of traditional culture in the art are the present problem that each art workers have to face.In this paper,based on the background of the Chinese Vogue in Europe in the 18 th century,the author systematically collating and classifying related historical materials,and use some Chinoiserie representatives by Boucher as cases study,in order to study the spirit of this era that conveyed by Chinese elements and painting characteristics in Boucher's work.Therefore,to gain some meanings and inspirations to the development of contemporary art and communication between Chinese and western culture.By targeting analysis on Boucher's paintings with characteristics of Chinese art,this papercan contributes to studies about the influence that Chinese art has on the rococo painting style,and helps to realize it more clearly that there maybe same rules in errors leaded by culture differences even though in different period of time.,and presents these conclusions in the form of text.The thesis consists of four parts.The first part is about the main background factors of Boucher's Chinoiserie painting.The second part discusses their painting subject and techniques,then discribe the features of Chinoiserie's schema(buildings,implements,characters,etc.)and painting techniques(lines,colors).The third part uses case study and image analysis method to probe into westerner's vision of China and their spiritual pursuits,and compares Boucher's works with others of similar type to excavate the differences between Chinese and Western cultures.The fourth part is to summarize and think about the inspiration of Chinese contemporary artworks and the significance of the integration of Chinese and Western culture through this topic.
