New Figurative Art is still an important art phenomenon worth paying attention to in today's Chinese oil painting field,and even in the world oil painting field.The phenomenon of New Figurative Art in China has its inevitability as well as its chance.The purpose of this thesis is to find out the developing process of "New Figurative Art" in China.To clarify the subjective and objective factors behind its development and the phenomenon of misreading.The purpose of this paper is to discuss the spread,development and influence of New figurative Art in Chinese oil painting field.First of all,try to return to the place of birth,to explore the original appearance of New Figurative Art.This part will be combined with the latest overseas research results,discussing the situation of New Figurative Art in overseas countries,to present the definition,appearance,representative artists and works of figurative painting made by western scholars and artists from 20 th century to now.From theoretical point of view,“figurative painting” is a form of artistic expression that opposite to “abstract painting”,there are also opinions that “figurative” equate with “realism”.The New Figurative Art mentioned in this paper refers to the period after World War II,which different from traditional “realistic” painting,some researchers call it as “contemporary figurative art”.The concept of New Figurative Art spread to China from the middle of 1980 s,due to the influence of local cultural background and social cognition,the New Figurative Art has developed a new system in China,which is different from the New Figurative Art in the West.As to the concept of Figurative Performance Painting,which refers to the art school that took place in Europe after 1950 s.The key point of this paper is to clarify the spread and development of New Figurative Art in China.From the current research result,The New Figurative Painting Exhibition should be the earliest period of the development of the New Figurative Art in China.This art movement originated in the Southwest of China from 1985 to 1989,that has influenced the whole country.It lead to the birth of new appearance and vitality of the oil painting in the 1980's and 1990's in China.From 1993 to 2002,New Figurative Art as the content of teaching activities in The China Academy of Fine Arts and Xi'an Academy of Fine Arts.New Figurative Art disseminated within the College in China.It is also a period of further expansion of its influence in Chinese art field.At the base of combing the history of New Figurative Art in China,based on the artist's argumentation and their artworks,discusses New Figurative Art from two aspects: What kind of works and artists are included in the category of New Figurative Art in China? How do they explain the New Figurative Art? What are the commonalities and characteristics of these works,which have been included in New Figurative Art? After that,the paper will further analyze the misreading of New Figurative Art and its impact.Based on the art history research methods of graphology and sociology,this paper analyzes the interaction between artistic creation and social background through the artworks.To explain the artistic phenomenon of New Figurative Art as an artistic phenomenon of local oil painting creation and the influence of foreign culture,it has a profound influence on Chinese oil painting in the end of 20 th century.
