Although misreading is a common phenomenon in modern reading and criticism, it has long been treated widely as a common word referring to mistaken reading or elucidation. It was until Harold Bloom first brought forward his definition of misreading in his The Anxiety of Influence and used it as a theoretical term, when misreading began to has its right meaning. Broom brought forward the "six amend ratio" of poem, among which, the first is known as "Clinamen", namely "the real misreading or intentional misreading of poem...A poet excurses his forerunners, ie. by misreading the forerunner's poem, so as to arise Clinamen to the poem. This comes out to be a amendment movement in the poet's poem." Broom classifies misreading into intentional misreading and non-intentional misreading. He also brought forward the theory of "Influence is misreading", noted that the relationship between the older generation of poets and the younger is not that of inheritance. The younger generation of poets also influence the older by misreading their works. This theory is a break-through to the traditional theory of literature influence. He also noted that one must misreading so as to get the real meaning of poem.As to misreading, masters of Deconstruction, Elucidationism, and Receptive Aesthetics all have their own profound views. All these views concentrates on "texuality" and "intertexuality", on the restrictions of characteristics and limits of language on textual, the open of textual and elucidation, on "influence" and "vague". The views of the masters all have their theoretical reasons and are all reasonable, by which we are greatly eliminated. They also lay a solid foundation for the later research and development on misreading. But , as these master viewed the problem from certain angle and from certain theoretical basic, they didn't have a thorough elucidation on misreading . They also stressed too much on the certainty ofmisreading, regarded metaphor as the basic characteristics, thus made all language expression uncertain and unreliable. Their influence is profound, and once greatly changed the viewpoints of regarding misreading as mistaken reading or elucidation, thus turned to recognize and exaggerate the activity of misreading, and aroused arguments on misreading. In this article, base on such arguments, the author theoretically and thoroughly analyzes on misreading. The definition of misreading in this article includes Bloom's viewpoint of "intentional misreading is amended misreading" as well as the possible unreasonable misreading---- in literature reading and criticism, the reader views the meaning and value differently because of different viewing angles, levels of cognition, ways, times, nationalities, and context of culture language. This article also classifies misreading basing on the analyses of the theory of misreading, gives a thorough analyses on the reason, the history of misreading, the necessity and reasonableness of misreading, and the method of misreading in the practice of criticism. It also generalize the meaning of criticism under the context of modern elucidation. This article also argues about misreading on a wide definition, but it focus on restricting misreading in modern elucidation context and literature criticism. Reasonable misreading can offer us new angles for reading texture, break the praralizeness of common agreement, promote the development of culture, bring up many schools of criticism and many faceted state of theory. On the other hand, many kinds of misreading enrich the meaning and content of the texts, offer sources of thoughts for the thinker. When giving prominence to the significance and function of reasonable misreading, we can't ignore the existence of unreasonable misreading and the reverse value and effect it may possibly bring. We must restrict misreading reasonably, prevent the arbitrariness from destroying the basic structure of the text and its real meaning and thus leads to Relativism, causing chaos in reading and understanding the text. Otherwise misreading w...
