China(1912-1949),along with the development of modernization, higher education had to follow the European and American countries to establish a new educational system, influenced by the “late and extrinsic modernization”,nationalism oriention for running a school was the mainstream, the setting and change of the foreign literature curriculum in the “National Peking University”,“National Tsinghua University”,“National Central University” and “National Southwest United University”,is an important microcosm in the field of Chinese education as well as a reflection on the Chinese modernization caused by the influence of foreign literature. The paper is divided into six chapters. The first chapter is an introduction, briefly explains the origin of the topic, the significance of the the Republic of China, expounds the impact of Chinese modernization of thoughts, politics, education and literature on foreign literature curriculum provison. The sixth chapter is the conclusion and prospect of future research and makes prospects to the developing direction of the field in the future.Based on the analysis of historical materials, the main conclusions of this paper are as follows: firstly, the setting of “Foreign Language” curriculum in Tungwen College lies the foundation of “Foreign Literature”,this period is considered as the preparation of “Foreign Literature” curriculum;Secondly,“Foreign Literature” established the discipline system by the enactment of three constitutions in Imperial University of Peking.Although it hadn’t gained independent practice status, but “Foreign Literature” curriculum had infiltrated into the teaching according to Memoirs of Translation School, this period is considered as the formation of “Foreign Literature” curriculum.Through series of academic and subject reform,“Foreign Literature” curriculum presents diversified types and open patterns in 4 national universities in the Republic of China, this period is
