| This is an English-Chinese translation report of texts of “One Belt,One Road”(OBOR),which was initiated by President Xi Jinping in 2013 during his visit to Kazakhstan. It is of particular significance to the development of China and the countries along the routes. This report collects speeches delivered by political officials, news reports and comments from American,British and Australian newspapers. The report consists of four chapters.First,it introduces the translation task, significance of the translation report as well as the organization of the report.Chapter Two details the process of translation including preparation before the translation,while-translation,difficulties in the translation and proofreading after the translation.Chapter Three begins with the theoretical guidance,Systemic Functional Linguistics(SFL)and then the translation is analyzed at the lexical, clausal and above clausal levels based on SFL.The last chapter summarizes the report and points out the major findings and limitations. It is found that SFL is a useful tool for translation practice.Register analysis of concepts can raise translators’ awareness of context and thus affect the translator’s choices of words in translation process.Transitivity analysis at the grammatical level enables the translator to distinguish the processes and translate them into the target text in respect of the experiential meaning. In addition, the mood and modality analysis at the grammatical level helps translator understand the speakers’ attitudes and reproduce them precisely.Studying cohesion and clause complexes in the translation at the above-clausal level, the translator is able to find the differences between Chinese and English and some translation skills are adopted to produce a coherent and smooth text in the target language. |
