In China, the rocketing foreign trade not only fuels the economic growth but also generates more requirements for language service and helps Chinese language service industry take shape and go forward.More requirements spur language service providers to seek to balance efficiency and quality. And their weapons are those computer-aided translation tools such as electronic dictionaries and SDL Trados.During the internship at Guangzhou Lan-bridge Information Technology Co.,LTD(abbreviated to Lan-bridge),three problems including fuzzy matches caused by low matching rate, incorrect translations and inconsistency of special phrases such as proper nouns and terminologies were identified in the translation memory database of Lanbridge. The quality of translation memories determines that of translation. Therefore,in order to address those problems, the author makes suggestions as follows:Before translation, special phrases should be extracted from source texts and then should be translated by senior translators or term experts.During translation,a project translation memory should be created. And the main translation memory must not be ungraded before texts are translated and revised. After translation, translated texts should be revised and then uploaded into the main translation memory.Additionally, collected parallel texts should also be imported into the main translation memory after being aligned with the assistance of alignment tools. In the process, two main aspects are involved, namely language and technology. In regard to language, three dimensions including cognitive dimension, language dimension and communication dimension should be considered to assess the translation of special phrases. In regard to technology,computer-aided translation tools should be chosen to align those parallel texts so as to reuse them after the completion of a translation project.A translation memory can not only reduce the burden on translators but also be taken as a parallel corpus to help students practice translation, for translation memory supports the function of Find and Replace so that students can search different expressions of a word and accumulate fixed expressions. It has been a trend that translation companies use translation memory databases at the core of computer-aided translation tools.Facing the trend, students majoring in translation should organize translation groups in their daily practice. And in those groups, parallel texts could be collected and aligned, and cloud translation memory databases could be created.During translation and post-translation,those databases could be upgraded and managed.Through collaboration translation, students can learn knowledge of translation memory databases to adapt themselves to changes of the market and to gain more favor from translation companies.Besides, universities should pay attention to the cultivation of abilities of computer-aided translation and set related courses.Also,computer-aided translation tool developers should provide students with convenient learning conditions in cooperation with universities.
