Nowadays a lot of Chinese TV channels start to provide simultaneous interpreting service when they report important overseas news in a timely manner, therefore, the academia of interpreting studies in China is conducting more and more researches on this relatively new form of simultaneous interpreting, which is abbreviated as TV SI in this paper.Against this backdrop, the author chooses TV SI as the research object, and then studies the correlation between two cognitive processing variables in the source speech and dependent variables in the SI output of TV simultaneous interpreters,by analyzing the simultaneous interpreting(SI)output of three interpreters from three TV channels of the third 2016 US Presidential Debate based on Gile's Effort Model and Grice's Cooperative Principle. In this research, the author selects two cognitive processing variables in the source speech, which are information density and speech rate, and studies how they correlate with quality of the SI output from three SI interpreters of different TV channels. The author adopts four dependent variables, which can be considered as four indexes or parameters to evaluate the SI output, which are error, omission, key information loss, and addition. The author starts out by arguing that there is a correlation between the cognitive processing variables and the interpreters' SI output, and then presents the collected data in the forms of tables, bar charts, and computer-generated trend lines. After identifying the correlation from the explicit data presentation, the author analyzes some typical examples in the interpreters' SI output based on Gile's Effort Model and Grice's Cooperative Principle and points out that when the SI interpreters are in face of cognitive overload, they produce a more satisfying SI output when they observe the Cooperative Principle, while a less satisfying SI output is produced when they violate Cooperative Principle.
