The lexical content and cultural connotation of place names are extremely rich.It reflects the thinking in language and is loaded with a strong regional culture.The frequency of using Place names in daily life is so high that foreign students’ life and communication is inseparable from them.Therefore,this paper argues that teaching place names in teaching Chinese as a foreign language is necessary and do some research on it.In the introduction,we expound the reason to select the topic,research significance,research contents,research methods and the theory basis.The first chapter is the literature review,mainly about the three aspects,that is the study of place names,teaching language and teaching culture in teaching Chinese as a foreign language and teaching place names in teaching Chinese as a foreign language which clarifies the predecessors’ research for this paper.In the second chapter,we analyze the current teaching syllabus and teaching materials in teaching Chinese as a foreign language,mainly about International Curriculum for Chinese Language Education and the textbook Tourism and Culture in China.Thus,we know place names teaching runs through the whole teaching Chinese as a foreign language,but the teaching content is very dispersed without a complete system.And there are many place names in the textbooks,but the real place names teaching does not exist.This is the current situation of the teaching place names in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.In the third chapter,we study the corpus of place names teaching.First,we summarize the selecting principle of the place names,that is the high frequency in daily use;famous scenic spots and tourist attractions must be collected;rich cultural connotation.And we collect place names in Wenzhou in this paper,because Wenzhou is a famous historical and cultural city with numerous scenic spots and increasing foreign students.So we collected 500 Wenzhou place names with high frequence in daily use according to four types that is administrative districts,the street and lane,natural landscape and artificial construction.Then we analyze the collected Wenzhou place names which is the foundation of the study of the place names teaching.We analyze it according to three aspects that is the composition,natural humanities characteristics and naming principle.Specifically,from the number of syllables and the format of the level and oblique tones to study speech characteristics,we find that the composition is given priority to double,three and four syllables,and the majority are connected by sound level or with oblique tones.From the structure and meaning of the vocabulary to study vocabulary characteristics,we find that four main word structures that is "specialized noun + common noun "," common noun + common noun " and " specialized noun + common noun + common noun " and " specialized noun + common noun + specialized noun + common noun ",and we also find three word meanings that is basic meaning,additional meaning and implied meaning.From the point of parts of speech and word formation to study grammar characteristics,nouns,adjectives,number(quantity),verbs and single morpheme words,compound words and phrases are embodied in the place names.There are three natural humanities features of Wenzhou: abundant natural common noun,rich character names in place names and rich religious place names.The naming principle of place names in Wenzhou is mainly three categories: the geographical,historical and psychological reason.The geographical reasons can be divided into natural geography and human geography;the historical reason is divided into historical figures,historical events and legends;psychological reason is divided into ideas,wishes and feelings.The fourth chapter is the focus of this paper,namely the teaching of place names in teaching Chinese as a foreign language.We study the teaching contents,teaching methods and skills,teaching significance.The teaching content can be divided into three sections: vocabulary,Chinese characters and the culture.The vocabulary of place names are divided into common noun and specialized noun words,and the two are subdivided according to the word meaning;The Chinese characters in place names is 500 in total according to the Outline of Chinese Characters Grade;as for the culture in place names,we mainly analyze the clan concept,the orientation notion,the human psychology,totem worship and religious beliefs,and make the comparison between China and the west.Teaching methods and skills are based on PPP teaching mode combining the task-based teaching method and the principle of "practical principle,communication principle,objective principle and time limited principle".We put forward the corresponding teaching methods for the three parts in class,namely presentation,explanation and practice.In the presentation part,we can use blackboard,material object,multimedia and performance.In the explanation part,we can use question and answer method,comparative method,interesting story method and field teaching method.In the practice part,we can use multiple choice practice,question practice and task-based question.And the significance of teaching place names is summarized after the comparsion with general teaching of vocabulary,Chinese characters and culture.In fifth chapter,we specifically designed a teaching case that is see the Chinese totem worship from the place names containing the "dragon".The fourth chapter is a theoretical guidance to this chapter which transforms the theory to practice and we mainly analyze the teaching elements and teaching process in this chapter. |
