| This report narrates the E-C translation practice of pages 246-284 and pages 534-538 in The Oxford History of Literary Translation in English Volume 4(6.3-6.5),edited by Peter France and Kenneth Haynes that elaborates the history of literary translation in English comprehensively and systematically.The whole book is translated by teamwork.The author’s translation part covers literary translation from Italy,Spain and Portugal,and the North(of Europe),which includes translation of famous poems like Dante’s Divine Comedy,the oldest and longest poem in the Anglo-Saxon Era Beowulf,and also refers to translated works by noted and excellent poets and writers like Torquato Tasso,etc.as well as comments to them.The translation project was carried out under the guidance of Jin Di’s equivalent effect theory.The report consists of five chapters.The first chapter includes introduction of the source text(ST),review on literary translation in English study at home and abroad and the significance of the translation practice;the second part is about pre-translation in which the analysis of ST type and linguistic features,parallel texts and other relevant texts,translation tools and teamwork are involved;The third chapter relates to the theory: Jin Di’s equivalent effect theory in which the three main concepts are stressed.The fourth one is the case analysis that forms the main part of the report.The analyses are conducted at lexical level,syntactic level and textual level.The final part is the conclusion.Under the guidance of Jin Di’s theory,the author adopts various translation methods like “reorganizing sentence structures”,“following the original syntactic order” and etc.in the translation practice to achieve an equivalent effect to the maximum extent.The writing of this report aims at providing a reference for related scholars,students and literary translation amateurs in their research and study. |
