The research objective of the thesis is the English version of Huo Zhe(2012),a novel written by Chinese contemporary writer Yu Hua.The book adopts double narrative points of view to tell the story of the major hero Fugui under the background of national huge changes during the initial period of China.The language of the novel is pretty plain while readers may receive extraordinary shock from their hearts by the simple language.Besides,the background lies on villages in the initial period of China.So the language style is intimately fit for the characters.The English version of the novel was accomplished by an American Professor,Michael Berry,who works in California State University.The thesis aims to do some criticism towards To live,the English version of Huo Zhe,under the theoretical guidance of literary stylistics,and to illustrate its guiding value towards literary translation.The thesis is going to conduct the qualitative study on the foregrounding stylistic features by close reading,and use comparative method to analyze the expressions and aesthetic effects of the source text and the target text so that their aesthetic value can be evaluated.The conclusion of the study reads that in doing literary translation,novel in particular,the translated version should be close to the source version to a big extent,either from the content or from the aesthetic effect,and foremost,it should basically perform the influential work to the target readers.Based on the case study of the translation of Huo Zhe,the author of the thesis maintained that with the guidance of literary stylistics theory,the original novel could be translated artistically faithful in terms of content,form and style.
