An Eco-linguistics Study On Chinese Internet Vocabulary

Eco-linguistics is a cross discipline between linguistics and ecology.It is one of the main branches of linguistics and studies the relationship between language and environment and their interactions with each other by using the theory of ecology.The theory of eco linguistics is gradually formed,but it seldom discusses the new phenomena in language.And in the era of emphasis on ecological development,it is necessary to study language.In recent years,Internet vocabulary has gradually attracted the public’s attention.Internet vocabulary is a new phenomenon in the language system and is the embodiment of dynamic expression of language.Its rapid propagation brings new vitality to the language ecosystem.And it also maintains the balance of modern language system,reflecting the changes of society,humanities and natural environment.With the representative Internet words collected from books,Baidu and micro-blog from 2010 to 2017,this thesis analyzes the evolution and diversity of network vocabulary and the influence of macro ecological environment factors,such as politics,economy,culture and human factors to explore the characteristics of Internet vocabulary and the influence of external factors on the emergence and development of network vocabulary.The thesis also studies the changes of the living environment of the network language,the influence of the network language on the language ecosystem to solve the research questions:1.How does Internet vocabulary evolve?2.What are the main external factors for the emergency and development of Internet vocabulary?3.What is the current situation of Internet vocabulary in language ecosystem?Based on the theory of eco-linguistics,this thesis makes systematic analysis of Internet vocabulary by means of literature review,qualitative analysis and case analysis.It is found that the previous research on Internet vocabulary is very successful but is mainly focused on the language itself,and the study of ecological characteristics and external factors is very little.Through a new perspective,this thesis analyses Internet vocabulary from the ecological perspective in order to expand and deepen the research of network vocabulary.Therefore,it is of great academic value and practical significance to study the Internet vocabulary.Through the study,it is found network vocabulary is like the ecological phenomena in nature.The evolution can be summed up into two ways,the evolution of expression forms and the evolution of meaning.The diversity of the network vocabulary can also be regarded as the result of the evolution of the network vocabulary.The diversity of Internet vocabulary is mainly focused on homophonic,blending,new use of old words and dialects.In addition,the emergence and development of Internet vocabulary is mainly influenced by economy and humanity from the perspective of macro ecological environment and it also reflects socio-economic and cultural phenomena.As a new linguistic phenomenon,the existence environment of Internet vocabulary in the language ecosystem is relatively loose,which plays a role in balancing the role of the language ecosystem and enriches the modern language ecosystem.Although this thesis has carried out a specific analysis to Internet vocabulary from a new perspective,there are some limitations.As time is limited,a long-term study can not be carried out.The selection of the corpus is only a reflection of the general network vocabulary and fails to represent a particular case.For the future research in this field,it is suggested that a long-term,systematic and complete analysis should be carried out.
