The Influence Of The Type Of Self-esteem On The Attention Bias Of Emotional Faces

Self-esteem is one of the core factors of personality.As one of the research topics in personality psychology,it has attracted much attention.Research has showed that the level of self-esteem can affect the individual's attention bias.However,the structure of self-esteem is complex.Implicit social cognition holds that self-esteem has a dual structure,which considers implicit self-esteem exists in addition to explicit self-esteem.However,few scholars have combined explicit self-esteem and implicit self-esteem to explore its influence on attention bias.This study divides self-esteem into four categories by measuring explicit self-esteem and implicit self-esteem.The influence of the type of self-esteem on the attention bias is explored with emotional faces as the experimental material.Since previous studies are mostly behavioral studies and the eye tracker can record more accurate attention information,the experiment one obtains behavioral data of the attention bias of emotional faces from individuals with different types of self-esteem through the dot probe paradigm,and gets eye movement data using eye tracking technology at the same time.We analyze behavioral data and eye movement data to explore the characteristics and internal mechanism of the attention bias of individuals with different types of self-esteem.That is to say,we need to find out whether attention bias is caused by facilitated attention or longer attentional maintenance.Spatial cueing task can be used to analyze attention disengagement better.In the second experiment,we study the type of self-esteem and attention bias by using spatial cueing task,supplement the data of the experiment one,and perfected the research.The results show:(1)People have more attention to positive or negative emotions,but more attention is paid to positive than negative ones;(2)Individuals with high explicit and high implicit self-esteem have attention bias to the positive faces in the overall attentional maintenance,however individuals with high explicit and low implicit self-esteem lack of attention bias towards emotional faces,and high explicit self-esteem shows heterogeneity;(3)Individuals with low explicit and high implicit self-esteem have attention bias to positive and negative faces,while individuals with low explicit and low implicit self-esteem have attention bias to the positive faces in the overall attentional maintenance,showing that the two are different in the way of gaining interpersonal harmony to improve self-esteem.
