Geng Danru's History Study

Geng Danru(1898-1975),formerly known as Geng Zuojun,from Haimen Jiangsu province,was a famous historian in the 20th century.Danru(?????)is his courtesy name.He is one of the earliest founders of the History of Western History in the People's Republic of China.Geng is rigorous in scholarship and has a wide range of interests.He has made great achievements in International Relations,Foreign History,Historiography,and so on,leaving a large amount of works for later generations.However,at present,the academic research on Geng Danru and his writtings is not directly proportional to its contribution.This article intends to make a systematical inspection of the history thought of Geng Danru on the basis of a comprehensive collection of Geng's writing materials.The dissertation is divided into four parts: The first chapter introduces the reason and value of the topic,and introduces the research status about Geng Danru and his works.The second chapter,"Life and Writings",introduces the history and the writings of Geng Danru to lay the foundation for the following.The third chapter,"Study on the Foreign History Teaching Materials",is divided into two parts.The first part,basing on the analysis of the dissemination and versons of Geng's Foreign History of Senior High Schools,putting the book into the historical environment at that time,is to present the characteristics of the "for truth" in the study of Geng's foreign history through the comparative studies.The latter part mainly introduces the series of the textbooks of ancient history of the world written by Geng Danru after the founding of the PRC,to reveal the characteristic of "for real" in his history thoughts.The fourth chapter,"Research on the History of Western History",contains two parts.In the first half,the author explores Geng's contribution to the development of the Historiography in China in the 1960 s,basing on the analysis of the content and value of the article What Is the History of History? and the comparison of historiography thoughts between Geng Danru and Liu Jie.In the latter part,by sorting out the relevant archives,he reavels the contribution of the creation and foundation in the discipline of history of foreign history,and displays the "novelty" in Geng's historiography study.
