An Analysis Of The Narrative Structure Of Character Documentaries

The narrative structure is the basis of the documentary creation,and it is the main structure and expression of the composition of the documentary content.Different types of documentaries need to use different narrative structures.Different narrative structures also have a very important influence on the expression of the theme and content of documentaries.As one of the main types of documentaries,character documentaries are based on the core of their content,“people”,and they provide real records and depictions of the character's image and life status,demonstrating the“human” thoughts and emotions.Therefore,the character documentary mainly presents the hero's life state and its spiritual world,and starts from the individual's“person” to reflect on the entire society,which infers the status of the entire society and the development of individual groups.This thesis is based on the author's self-produced character documentary “20 30”.Through the use of a two-line parallel narrative structure,the two heroes of the20-year-old and 30-year-old heroes of different ages in the film—the hip-hop rapper's work,study,and life are true.Record,talk about hip hop singers' attitudes and choices on the road of music and the path of life,record their understanding of comprehending hip hop culture,and show their real life and emotional world.Through a complete record of the series of events experienced by the four protagonists during the New Year's performance,combined with the narrative techniques of the documentary,the narrative structure of the character documentaries is carefully studied and analyzed.The first part of the article is an introduction,which explains the research background,research significance and research summary of the work.The second part analyzes the narrative structure of the character documentary based on the theory of narrative structure and analyzes the linear narrative structure theory of the film.Partially combined with his own documentary works,the author analyzes the relationship between the narrative structure and content expression of character documentaries from the perspective of “story” and “discourse”.The fourth part studies the expression of the narrative structure of character documentaries and analyzes the narrative structure of the characters.The role of the documentary theme expression,conflict contrast,and inner emotion expression.The fifth part is the author's experience in documentary film creation process.From the summary of the harvest and deficiency,he gets the theoretical and practical experience of documentary film creation.
