Gender Practice And Reflection On Boys' Love Subculture Under The New Media

Originated from Japan,Boy?s Love culture has developed as a kind of subculture with the coming age of the Internet in China.Based on the Boy?s Love culture,the subordinate group--Rotten Women tried to deal with some special social atmosphere,problems and contradictions.According to subculture theories and a series of culture studies,this thesis combs and analyzes Boy?s Love culture.The author of this thesis applies virtual ethnography,text analysis and interviews.Under the new media,the new features and tendency of Boy?s Love subculture is also an important reference for other internet subcultures? studies.Boys? Love subculture turns female from male gaze characters to appreciators and masters,which shows female?s pursuit of equal Love as well as satisfies female?s curiosity and desire about sex.However it is too optimistic to treat Boy?s Love subculture and Rotten Women activities as gender policy and revolution.Both of them are still influenced by patriarchy,the discipline of heterosexuality as well as misogyny and female inferiority.It can be seen as a fantasy which is against the cruel and strict reality.Besides there are many misunderstanding and conflicts between Rotten Women and gay community.Yet Boy?s Love subculture has its positive influence,such as the output of diverse gender temperaments and widening people?s scope of knowledge about gay community.What the Boy?s Love subculture and Rotten Women should consider is how to find the unrest factors such as media which helps Boys? Love culture develop but at the same time takes away its revolution power quickly then restore them and finally reach to the goal of gender emancipation.
