Under the guidance of text type theory of Peter Newmark,this report takes the translation of Winning with Data:Transform Your Culture,Empower Your People,and Shape the Future as an example,conducting a study on a business and management text,to explore the significance of Peter Newmark’s text type translation theory and his translation methods for the translation practice.Besides,the author aims to provide more references for future research.The report is comprised of six chapters.Chapter One is the introduction to the background,purpose and significance of the report.Chapter Two introduces the translation project including the background and content.Chapter Three is the description of the translation process,covering all the work the author has done during the process.Chapter Four demonstrates the theoretical framework-text type theory put forward by British translator Peter Newmark.Chapter Five is the case study,which deals with the application of the text type theory and the translation methods used during the translation process.Chapter Six sums up the whole translation practice,pointing out the experience obtained from the translation,the insufficiency of the author in the process of translation and the limitations of this translation practice.According to Peter Newmark’s text type theory,Winning With Data is a text falling in between informative and expressive texts.As for an informative text,we should attach greater importance to its authenticity and accuracy and communicative translation should be strongly recommended,aiming to make it easier to read,accurately convey information and then guide readers to think and act.While as for an expressive text,we should pay more attention to its original author,which requires us to faithfully express the thought and language style of its original author,and semantic translation should be firmly suggested,aiming to recreate the precise flavor and tone of the original.Thus,it is requested that communicative translation method and semantic translation method should be combined in the process of translation,and other translation methods supplemented.The main purpose of this translation report is to provide reference for the translation of business and management texts.
