A Report On The Translation Of The Excerpt From Global Studies:India And South Asia

With the continuous development of globalization,China needs to pay close attention to the development of the world situation while promoting and developing the splendid traditional culture,introducing advanced technology and culture in order to enhance its international influence constantly.Translation has become a bridge for communication between different cultures over the world,which plays an important role in the process of culture “bringing in” and “going out”.This translation report is guided by the Translation Variation Theory of Professor Huang Zhonglian.The author takes examples from the two chapters of Global Studies:India and South Asia—India Country Report and Pakistan Country Report—to analyze translation methods for informative texts.The report consists of five chapters.Chapter One is the introduction,which introduces the background and significance of the report.Chapter Two is the description of translation task,which introduces the sources,content and linguistic features of the translation materials as well as the purpose of the report.Chapter Three is the description of translation process,which introduces the whole work of translation from three stages(before,during and after translation).Chapter Four is the theoretical basis of this report and case analysis,which introduces the related knowledge of Translation Variation Theory first,and then analyzes how to use this theory to guide the translation of informative texts by combining specific translation cases.Chapter Five is the conclusion of the report,which summarizes the translation practice from the feelings and experiences of the author as well as the limitations of this practice.In the process of translation,the author adopts the translation techniques of interpretation,excerption and edition to solve the translation problems of proper nouns and complicated sentences under the condition of guaranteeing the accuracy and strictness of the informative texts,which improve the readability of translation.Therefore,the author hopes to write this report to record the whole process of solving the problems and difficulties during the translation of informative texts by adopting specific methods of the Translation Variation Theory.It is hoped that the author's summaries can provide good experiences to the translation of informative texts in the future.
