A Study Of Cantonese Transmission Of Guangzhou People Among Language Competition

Language competition refers to language contradictions caused by different language functions,which can form people's attitude difference towards different languages and influence their choice and use of language.Language learning and use is a way of language transmission.In the language communication system,the communication subject is considered to be the most active factor.Therefore,this paper mainly studies Cantonese transmission from the perspective of communication subject(Cantonese speakers).Through the investigation and analysis of Guangzhou people's language attitude and language use in daily life,the present situation of Cantonese language transmission in language competition is presented.This article is based on the positivist theoretical perspective,using questionnaires to conduct surveys,and using SPSS 20.0 for statistical data and analysis.We are concerned about the attitude and use of different social groups(based on age,education level,family background and gender)in Cantonese,Putonghua,and English,and use this to predict the future development of Cantonese in the language competition,and propose for the protection of Cantonese in the future.The study found that Cantonese remained an advantage in the language competition in Guangzhou,which was mainly based on its emotional identity as mother tongue,while English and Putonghua are also highly valued by Guangzhou people,mainly for their instrumental orientation.In daily language communication,Guangzhou people mainly use Cantonese in their private occasions,and mainly use ?Cantonese and Putonghua? in public.The distribution of language use patterns in private occasions is mainly related to family background and cultural level.Guangzhou people with ?Migration background? or ?high cultural level? are more likely to use ?Cantonese and Putonghua?.The distribution of language use patterns in public is mainly related to the level of culture and gender.Guangzhou people with higher education levels and women use Mandarin in more ways.We predict that the issue of Cantonese inheritance is expected to be challenged in certain communities with higher education,female,and migrant backgrounds.Therefore,we must attach importance to the construction of "emotional function" in Cantonese,and on the other hand,it may also positively spread the social function and instrumental value of Cantonese,especially to enrich Guangzhou people's knowledge of Cantonese in certain communities with higher education,female,and migrant backgrounds.
