A Report On Translating Walls: Resisting The Third Reich-One Woman's Story (Excerpts)

This report is based on the practice of translating excerpts from the book Walls:Resisting the Third Reich--One Woman's Story.This book,as a biography,written by Hiltgunt Zassenhaus,mainly talks about her experiences and some historical events during World War II.In the report,Chapters 24-31 of Walls are selected as the original text and translated into Chinese.After analyzing the features of the original text,the author noticed that its language is simple and concise,some expressions are repeated many times throughout the article,and there are many complex long sentences in description paragraphs.The report takes the concept of a second original in its own right as the guiding principle.The concept holds that a good translation must be fluent and make sense in its own right.Under the guidance of it,the author analyses the text from three levels,including lexical level,syntactical level,and textual level,and explores translation strategies.The report is comprised of four parts.The first part is about the description of the task,including the background of the selected chapters,significance of the task,and features of the original text.The second part describes the translation process,including the pre-translation preparations,related concepts and translation strategies,as well as after-translation management.The third part focuses on case analysis,showing the translation strategies adopted during the process.The last part summarizes the lessons learned by the author and the limitations of this project.
