Chen Xiaoming’s literary criticism concepts and his practice of criticism show very distinct personality characteristics and have an important influence in the Chinese contemporary academic community.Chen Xiaoming’s early theory and practice of literary criticism was influenced by the influx of Western literary theories in the 1980 s.He used Western theory as the main weapon of literary criticism and his representative book “The Unbounded Challenge—the post-modernity of the Chinese pioneer literature”,which epitomizes his critical qualities.Since the new century,Chen Xiaoming’s practice of literary criticism has returned to China’s local stance,caring about the realistic context of Chinese society,seeking for a meeting point between Chinese and Western literary theories,and making continuous efforts to change the theoretical system of literary criticism with Chinese characteristics.In his preface to the recent publication of criticizing the book "Zhong Miao Zhi Men",he said that he is no longer attached to the ideological methods of certain literary criticism schools,but a more critical approach to text analysis.He turned to pay more attention to the value of the literary text itself,and mainly interpreted the text from the three dimensions of the art of the novel,the ideological qualities,the historical context,and believed that the text could give birth to theories.This article has four chapters,mainly from the following aspects of the literary criticism of Chen Xiaoming’s early and recent practice of turning to the discussion:The first chapter mainly describes the political,academic,and cultural atmosphere of the seventies and eighties on the impact of Chen Xiaoming’s early literary theory formation Afterwards,the specific theories and criticisms that modernism made as its main theory;Chapter 2 shows Chen Xiaoming’s entry into the new century from the three aspects of returning to Chinese native Chinese novels,excavating the novel’s "beauty" and "dehistoricizing" criticisms.The characteristics of the later criticism and practice;the third chapter,mainly from the methodological theory to the characteristics of "Different Aesthetic Freedom",from the in-depth excavation of the pioneer novel’s spiritual loss to the reaffirmation of the value of literary inspiration,from theory to text in these three aspects The analysis of the turning practice of Chen Xiaoming’ s critical period from the early period to the late period;the fourth chapter mainly generalize several traits of Chen Xiaoming’s turn,including criticism is also a kind of creation,take the textual reading as the basis of criticism,and focuses on the critical qualities of the combination of Chinese and Western literary theory.In the context of the development of literary criticism in the context of Chen Xiaoming’s literary criticism,combined with the current discussion of “Compulsory Interpretation”,he considered the possible path of the discourse transformation of Chinese literary criticism in the new era.This constructs Chinese characteristics for contemporary Chinese critical circles;it may bring some useful inspiration of the development of the theoretical system of literary critics.
