| With the acceleration of China’s reform and opening up to the outside world andthe deepening of economic globalization, especially after China’s successful entryinto the WTO, more and more foreign enterprises and service institutions expand theirbusiness in China while more and more Chinese counterparts explore their businessopportunities around the world. One of the options they have is to solicit morecapitals by going public abroad or in Hong Kong. In order to achieve this goal, thepublisher must have their initial public offerings from the public investors in the formof prospectuses in accordance with the laws and regulations of relevant countries orareas. If a company wants to be listed abroad or in Hong Kong, it is required thatfundamental financial and legal documents, including prospectuses, announcements,annual reports and circulars which are indispensable to stock issuing, must betranslated into English, thus leading to the increasing demand of the translation offinancial and legal texts in China and even worldwide.The present study aims to summarize the parameters for the translation qualityassessment of prospectuses based on House’s translation assessment model incombination with the generic features and writing characteristics of this kind offinancial and legal text. Then this study makes a quality assessment of the translationof the Prospectus of Chongqing Rural Commercial Bank Co., Ltd by taking advantageof these parameters with a view to enriching the application of House’s translationassessment model and the research area of legal translation, hopefully finding aguiding theoretical framework and translation strategy for prospectus translationpractice and making contributions to the research of financial and legal translation. |
