As one of the four basic skills,writing,which can well reflect students' comprehensive language ability and creativity,plays a very important role in English learning.However,English writing remains a big difficulty for both teachers and students.Especially for the author's school,which is a remote minority one.Since Lewis came up the theory of the lexical approach in 1993,lexical chunks have played an important part in language study,because of the wide attention,experts at home and abroad including the teachers in schools have carried out many relevant researches.However,the researches about whether the approach can be applied into teaching in middle schools are very rare.As a consequence,the author will take the chance to make an experiment and manage to find the effective approach,finally explore the approach to promoting students' writing skills and scores.The author will make use of five chapters to demonstrate how to apply the chunk approach into teaching.The first chapter is the brief introduction,which includes the background of the thesis,the purpose and significance of the thesis.The second chapter is the literature review,which mainly refers to the definition and classification of chunks as well as the related theory in domestic and overseas current situation.Chapter three talks about research methodology,including the research questions,subjects,instrument and procedures.Chapter four is about data analysis and result discussion,trying to find out the positive effect of the lexical approach.Chapter five concerns about the major findings,and implication of the study,as well as the shortcoming of the thesis,reflection and suggestions for future research.After one semester,from the experimental results,the lexical chunk teaching has an obviously positive effect on the students' writing skills and their scores,therefore,it is necessary for the students in senior high to be applied into lexical chunk teaching.
